Owner & head trainerCarolin Malmkvist
Carolin grew up in a horse family in Sweden and has spent more than 35 years in the sport. She trained with some of Sweden’s top coaches and won a State Championship in three-day eventing. She rode in Sweden’s Elite Show Jumping Series and qualified for the Swedish Championship, and as captain of the pony jumping team she won gold two years in a row. At Markebacks Gård, a well-known Swedish breeding farm, she started a number of Swedish Warmblood stallions.
After moving to the US, she competed on the A circuit in hunters, jumpers and equitation, winning at HITS Thermal, Blenheim EquiSports, Spruce Meadows and other Southern California venues.
Carolin still rides and competes regularly. Along with training horses and getting riders ready to show, she brings along young horses and retrains off-track Thoroughbreds for new careers, and she still teaches plenty of lessons.
How Carolin trains
Carolin learned to ride in Sweden, and that background shapes how she trains today. Horses are turned out every day, and there's a lot of flatwork in the program. Young horses and off-track Thoroughbreds are brought along slowly. Riders learn to pay attention to how their horse is feeling and adjust their riding to it. The goal is horses that stay sound and enjoy their work for years.
